TNW with the support of Deniz Feneri completed the following initiatives in WASH sector in flood-affected areas of Southern Punjab districts of Pakistan.
Latrines and Hand Pumps: In district Layyah, 22 permanent latrines with essential sanitation were constructed in schools with missing facilities. Hand pumps were also installed in these schools. These interventions facilitated the poor young students to have proper sanitation and drinking water source. In Basti Light House Layyah, TNW built 30 latrines and laid underground low-cost sanitation system.
Awareness Raising: Our WASH team continuously remained active in raising awareness for proper health, hygiene and sanitation among the illiterate affected communities. Purpose was to keep these people safe from diseases. TNW in collaboration with National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) established Adult Literacy Centers in khanewal and Layyah districts. 175 female learners were enrolled to learn reading and writing skills.
Free Health Services: During and after the floods affected people especially women and children faced serious health issues. It was the routine activity of TNW to hold medical camps in flood areas with the provision of free checkups & free medicines to the poor patients. Thousands got benefited and were treated with this humble health care intervention.
